In depth
Verdict
Archie Babe holds obvious claims here, having won the opening race of the season on Thursday and, as that was an apprentice race he receives no penalty here. However, his price will be reflected by that and over this shorter trip he may be vulnerable. Of those who have been successful on the all-weather recently, Spitfire Bob can be given a chance, as he is lightly raced on turf and potentially well-treated here. Free Option won at Lingfield recently but is not certain to stay the trip on this galloping track, while Noble Cyrano is a full stone higher than his easy win at Southwell last time. Ionian Spring tends to go best on his first start of the season and is on a fair mark, so would have to be considered, as would Trouble Mountain. Mick Easterby's charge is on a very fair mark and will be suited by these conditions, so would have a big chance if fully fit for his reappearance. Liberty Seeker has far more scope than most, but does not look particularly well treated for his handicap debut, while the booking of Kieren Fallon adds to the chance of the fairly consistent Start Over. However, in a wide open race we will plump for Polish Corridor. Michael Dods' four-year-old progressed really well last year, including winning his handicap debut at Pontefract over today's trip. He goes well fresh, and the booking of Tony Culhane suggests that a big run is anticipated.
