In depth

Verdict

In a weak race, Ridgeway is fancied to see off main rival Jamie Browne, with Boulta, Noble Hymn and Blyth Brook others to consider. Ridgeway was not given the best of rides (by its trainer!) when second at Market Rasen last time, when he was given far too much to do. With Gino Carenza, who had previously won on him at Catterick, back on board this evening he looks hard to beat. The only reservation is that the horse prefers some cut in the ground, but any more rain would make him virtually unopposable in this company. Boulta, a fair performer between the flags, was just touched off by odds-on favourite Dunrig in a hunter chase at Kelso last time and that form would alost certainly give him place claims here. Noble Hymn put up its best effort under rules when second at Hexham recently, but even that is only moderate form, while Blyth Brook was pulled up at Aintree on Grand National day, but had earlier chased home the smart pair, Coole Abbey and Last Option, at Musselburgh and if he could reproduce that sort of form he would be a big danger. Recent point winner Jamie Browne is only six and has the potential to be a lot better than most of these, so any market suppport for him could be significant
