Top-weight COMPTONSPIRIT has a poor draw, but can overcome that in this poor contest, and gets the nod to get the better of Thunder Bay and Kheylide. Brian Baugh's mare posted her best effort for a while when a beaten favourite last time out at Yarmouth. A strike rate of 2 from 38 is far from impressive and she's not won for more than a year, but nothing comes into this contest in good form. Thunder Bay may benefit from first time blinkers; he's got a couple of other entries for later in the week, but Richard Fahey may be thinking this is his best chance of success. Kheylide won a marginally better race than this at Newmarket in May, but has shown little since. The jockey's three pounds claim means he's got a couple of pounds in hand on Comptonspirit. Previous renewals of this have thrown up some big price winners, but to small stakes we'll side with Comptonspirit.
