In depth
Verdict
Dawn Surprise has obvious claims and can see off the challenges of Royal Prince, Jazz Scene and Appalachian Trail. Dawn Surprise has mirrored the form of her stable this year, with victories at Salisbury, Kempton and Thirsk. Although her latest effort came on softer ground, she does handle the faster going and is a progressive sort. A mile is her optimum trip at present and the daughter of Theatrical looks the one to beat. Royal Prince has yet to score over this trip but has taken on fair company since gaining his two June successes, while Appalachian Trail has been gelded since his last run and is highly rated by his trainer. He was fourth to Cambridgeshire fancy Gatwick in Haydock's Silver Bowl in the spring, and will be aimed at some big mile handicaps next year. Jazz Scene hails from a stable in form and has been placed on numerous occasions, while United Nations is a course and distance winner but has more to do. All in all, Dawn Surprise is the one that they all have to beat.
