Verdict

This is a competitive affair despite the small field, and Momtic is taken to overcome the challenges of Polar Ben and St Andrews. A winner over the course and distance at the end of last season, St Andrews has not shown the same sparkle since, finishing third on a couple of occasions, most recently at Folkestone. He would appreciate more cut than he has here though. After a promising run first time out, Polar Ben stepped up on that when scoring here last time. However, although he is clearly in great heart, he would also prefer more give in the ground, and he is reluctantly passed over. After some excellent runs in defeat in handicap company, Momtic made up for those near misses when scoring over this trip at York. If Momtic can reproduce that effort he can claim this interesting contest. Momtic can defy top weight and score again and maintain his winning run.
