Just the one favourite has obliged in the last 10 runnings and this year's renewal looks no easier. Lexi's Hero beat no less than seven of today's rivals when scoring at York last month. If first-time blinkers bring further improvement, he should confirm running with those who finished closest to him, namely Cocktail Charlie and Swiss Dream. DESERT LAW was tailed off on that occasion, but that run may have come too soon after going very close on his reappearance. He's fancied to return to form in a race that Andrew Balding has won twice in the last five years. Plenty of others to consider, not least Murbeh, who produced a better effort at Chester last time and Steps, who had Coeus and Ballista behind winning over the minimum trip on the Rowley course here last month.
