Verdict

Old News won over this trip in Sweden last time but was well beaten off this mark on his handicap debut at Kempton earlier. Be Prepared may just have needed his run at Ripon last month and his only win to date at Windsor came on similar going. Powertrain has won his last two on good ground here and at Chester and will make a bold bid for the hat-trick if handling conditions but ASCENSION (NAP) looks the one to beat. Roger Varian’s grey hasn’t looked back since a modest debut at Newbury, justifying favouritism at Salisbury and Newcastle with the proverbial ton in hand. It’s a surprise to see him running in a handicap as he looks Listed class at least. Bravo Faisal is tough and experienced so looks the pick of the remainder.
