In depth

The booking of Frankie Dettori for Newnham takes the eye but Jim Boyle's gelding has been doing most of his racing on the all-weather so he may be best left out of calculations with preference for Well Established ahead of Villa Sonata. The last mentioned has solid claims at the weights but his best form is on a faster surface so she may be best watched unless the ground dries up noticeably. The lightly raced Penryn has to be respected for trainer David Elsworth, while the more experienced Top Spec probably has too much to do at the weights. Incidentally has ground conditions to suit but has yet to prove his effectiveness over this far and a safer option looks to lie with the Michael Jarvis-trained Well Established, who is relatively lightly raced this term, has ground conditions to suit and is more than capable of giving weight away all round.

Well Established (IRE) 8-1 (9-6) Tracked winner, ridden over 1f out, weakened final furlong, 5th of 8, 2l behind Ardea Brave (8-13) at Kempton 1m 4f app hcp (4) pol in Sept.

Penryn 12-1 (9-3) Slowly into stride, soon mid-division, ridden over 3f out, headway and hung left 2f out, ran on to lead last strides, won at Nottingham 1m 3yo & 4yo mdn (5) gd in Sept beating Esthlos (9-3) by a hd, 14 ran.

Incidentally (IRE) 13-2 (9-4) Tracked leader, ridden and every chance from 2f out, unable to quicken near finish, 3rd of 13, nk behind Looker (8-0) at Salisbury 1m 2f clm (5) gs in Sept.

Top Spec (IRE) 16-1 (9-10) Held up, headway over 2f out, ridden and edged left over 1f out, stayed on final furlong, 4th of 16, 3l behind Sforzando (9-4) at Haydock 1m 4f hcp 0-70 (5) gd in Sept.

Chronomatic 33-1 (9-0) Held up, effort over 3f out, weakened over 1f out, 6th of 15, 18l behind Bollin Derek (9-1) at York 1m 6f hcap (5) sft.

Villa Sonata 14-1 (8-7) Chased leaders, ridden over 3f out, outpaced final 2f, 4th of 9, 9l behind Counterpunch (9-4) at Windsor 1m 4f 3yo hcp (4) sft.

Dik Dik 14-1 (8-10) Close up, ridden 3f out, soon weakened, short of room over 1f out, 12th of 14, 14l behind Hurry Up Helen (9-0) at Brighton 1m 2f 3yo hcp (6) gs in Sept.

Newnham (IRE) 15-2 (9-7) Held up in rear, headway on outside over 1f out, stayed on inside final furlong, never nearer, 7th of 14, 4l behind Cusoon (9-7) at Lingfield 1m 2f hcap (5) pol.
