In depth

Verdict

Mahrajaan caught the eye on his reappearance and is fancied to be a different proposition with that run behind him. Villa Sonata, Abwaab and Against The Grain are interesting contenders to also note in the betting market. Against The Grain is a half-brother to several winners and, being by Pivotal, shouldn't mind a bit of give underfoot. His stable's runners usually come on for a run and it will be noteworthy to see where he goes from here. Abwaab - a son of July Cup winner Agnes World - make some appeal on pedigree and, as Willie Haggas has his string in good order, it would be interesting to see him attract any support on his debut. Villa Sonata was third on her juvenile debut and showed plenty of promise. Her dam was useful over 10f, so should improve with experience. However, Mahrajaan looks the real deal for a race like this at this stage of the season and, having already proved his well being this season, the son of Machiavellian is fancied to have too sharp an edge on this occasion.
