In depth

Verdict

The opener has some interesting types and OPENING MEET might be the answer to it with Sadler's Star and Wilbury Star worthy of the shortlist. Interestingly, Paul Nicholls elects to use an amateur to offset a winners penalty but while this horse started as a 33/1 outsider to win his maiden at the course; he travelled and jumped in a manner that completely belied those pre race predictions. Sadler's Star faces no easy task giving weight all around. He was well beaten in a handicap though might enjoy better luck for returning to novice grade. Nicky Henderson was amongst the winners at Goodwood last week and he is represented on this occasion by Wilbury Star. A two time winner on the flat, he should have few issues with the prevailing fast ground. Catholic Hill was modest on the flat though his trainer is more than capable of getting winners over timber. Doubletoilntrouble was supported in a couple of bumpers so clearly is not devoid of promise. Kings Riches was a disappointment at Stratford last month having travelled with apparently plenty in the tank, He is surely better than this line of form implies. No surprise to see the bigger yards dominating our thoughts in this contest and Opening Meet could be open to a quick follow up.
