        Verdict

        If fit enough, Control Man can cheer the locals, with Blue Americo and Gaye Trigger interesting along with Bowleaze. Control Man is owned by David Johnson so we can assume that he will be seen at some of the bigger venues if good enough. A winner on his Plumpton bumper debut last term, he found conditions too lively on his final start at Newbury and was put away to strengthen up. Control Man runs here rather than taking in the Bingley Novices' Hurdle at Ascot on Saturday and the hint should be taken. Blue Americo, a half-brother to Gold Cup winner Imperial Call, was expected to make a winning start at Newbury in March but was devoid of pace. He is a long term prospect and could be anything when sent over fences eventually. Bowleaze put one over on another Nicholls inmate, Classify, at Exeter in April, and makes his timber debut. The softer ground here might not help his cause. Gaye Trigger brings back memories of some great horses of the 70's and 80's, and this five-year-old, owned by Mercy Rimell, may turn out to be well above average in time. An interesting affair then, and one in which Control Man can take charge. Described as an exciting prospect by his trainer, he is one to watch out for in staying events later on in the season.
