Verdict
Jimmy Fortune gets on well with Libre and the partnership look the team to be with in this close-knit handicap. Brief Goodbye and Charmatic are both in good heart and are respected as dangers, Arabie will be a threat if Frankie Dettori can manage to keep him interested from pillar to post. However, he is a law unto himself and the sparkle he showed when with Henry Cecil is a rarely seen these days. Charmatic won well at Pontefract last month and was not unduly punished by the handicapper. This does appear to be a stiffer assignment, though. And he has more to find. Brief Goodbye was a surprise winner at Sandown on his penultimate outing but has subsequently run well in defeat. He looks a solid option to make the frame in this company. However, Libre is far more consistent than most of his rivals and has just the right attitude to rely on in a battle. The string of placed efforts do not tell the whole story about Libre and he is fancied to put the record straight tonight.
