Verdict
An open heat but the Gosden yard are likely to be pretty pleased with the opening handicap mark afforded to August after the Almanzar colt put up his best performance to date when a good fourth in a decent Newmarket novice. However, ABU ROYAL may offer a touch of value after backing up a narrow Thirsk defeat with a smooth Ayr victory over this trip. He's the sort to improve again going handicapping and gets the nod. Recent York scorer, Starnberg, is up 7lb for the win but was impressive that day and his rider offsets 5lb of the rise. He should be suited by the extra one and a half furlongs too and completes the shortlist. The remaining four can all have a case made for their chance with Gulmarg and Umberto making most appeal of the quartet.
