Verdict
The Fillies' Handicap can go to Darla but, in a competitive affair, Yomalo, Tancred Times, Silver Chime, United Spirit and College Queen are among those that are fully entitled to their supporters. Darla was an eyecatcher at Lingfield last time after finishing a good second at Yarmouth the time before. On this more conventional track, she can at last get her head in front. Judged on her maiden win at Ayr in May, Cefira would have a chance, but that absence is a worry. Sixteen-time winner Tancred Times always warrants respect at this type of level from her current mark, and Yomalo is back to near a winning mark and seems to come good at this time of year. Bear her in mind. Woodbury continues in good form and runs here under a penalty for a recent win. She too is respected and Silver Chime is now back to below the mark from which she won in May. United Spirit is closely weighted with Darla on Lingfield form so comes into the reckoning, and La Vie Est Belle's win over Wunderbra two runs ago reads as pretty good form in the context of this race. Miss Judgement is another to be close to a winning mark, and connections have decided to run despite the fact that the filly will be dropped two pounds shortly. Seeing that College Queen has won over course and distance form a pound higher mark then she too, naturally, comes into the reckoning. Bear in mind that the words fillies and handicap in the same sentence at this time of year can sometimes bring on a cold sweat when we offer up the selection as Darla.
