Verdict

A cracking little contest in which last years winner Dragon Flyer looks to have a fine chance to follow up. Mick Quinn's filly hasn't won since landing this last year for Graham McCourt, but she has several decent efforts in defeat to her name, none more so than when just touched off by the much improved The Tatling in the Group 3 King George Stakes at Goodwood, form of which gives her the edge over Peace Offering. Terry Mills' colt has kept company with some of the best sprinters around while he will be at home under prevailing conditions, he does look as though he has something to prove now. There is little to choose between him and Maltese Falcon using a line through Somnus, but there is a suspicion the latter may be more at home with some give underfoot. Henry Hall is a useful sprinter, but finds it difficult to get his head in front, while Absent Friends surely has too much to do on these terms. Dubian Gift is clearly on the upgrade and should run well without quite being up to winning, so Dragon Flyer, who chased up The Tatling last time, is taken to land this in consecutive years.
