    Verdict

A match on paper between Quartino and Mekuria with the former narrowly securing the vote. John Gosden's representative holds entries in the Racing Post Trophy and the Royal Lodge Stakes and today's entry was made in favour of a tilt at a conditions race at Newbury. There was a lot to like about his attitude on his most recent run at Kempton behind Resplendent One and compensation surely awaits. Mekuria is a daughter of Arc winner, Carnegie. She doesn't hold any fancy entries and while it is always difficult to oppose Mark Johnston's horses - the market will hold most clues as to what she has shown on the gallops. Forever Fantasy hails from a late maturing family and looks difficult to fancy after two modest runs. Numpty has similarly been well held in two racecourse appearances. We will favour the experienced Quartino to land the third race on the card at the expense of newcomer, Mekuria.
