        Verdict

        HURRICANE LANE stepped up on his Derby third to land the Irish equivalent at the Curragh last month. Charlie Appleby’s colt looks the one to beat in this. Aidan O’Brien has won the last three renewals but Irish Derby third Wordsworth has plenty to find with the selection while Sir Lamorak was beaten in a handicap at Ascot and a third Ballydoyle runner in The Mediterranean finished behind Alenquer when the latter won a Group 2 in testing ground at Royal Ascot. The Haggas colt could well show further progress today as could French Derby fourth Saiydabad, who finished in front of stablemate Cheshire Academy, while the German raider Northern Ruler beat Bubble Gift in a Group 3 at Chantilly last month.
