In depth
Verdict
A grand little mares race with four or five in with chances, including Glenogue who is the pick over Petite Margot, Lisa Du Chenet and River Alder. Nigel Twiston-Davis has quite rightly decided to claim a valuable seven pounds from Petite Margot's allotted weight of twelve stone four. She earned her welter weight by winning at Towcester, Warwick and Ludlow in the autumn over two miles five furlongs to three miles, so the trip today is of no concern, although her weight and her long busy season may well be. Lisa Du Chenet is a fresh horse with only three runs under her belt so far this season. She improved greatly for her first run at Hereford before Christmas to win at Fontwell and Lingfield. She had no problem staying the two mile seven furlongs at the latter track and we envisage no staying problems. With a clear round she should go close under Mick Fitzgereld. River Alder could be of interest as well. She was successful in point-to-point company before winning over a stiff two mile five furlongs at Carlisle under two weeks ago when beating the favourite in good style. She is unexposed and could be anything. Although without a win this season, Glenogue has been chancing here luck in better company recently. A cracking two lengths fourth to Kentford Grebe in the EBF Mares' novice final at Newbury last month, she has proved she has class, and with no penalty under her belt, Glenogue is taken to break her maiden this afternoon.
