In depth
Verdict
The feature race on the Perth card is a competitive handicap chase over the extended two and a half miles, with four or five holding leading claims. They include Deep Water who defied a 10lb rise in the weights to score at Wetherby on his last start. Although he would not want the ground any quicker, Micky Hammond's charge is one for the short-list. Emperor Ross has not been seen since being pulled up in testing ground here last August, but providing he is anywhere near fit, can take a hand. Hunters Tweed has not hit the heights over fences but this formerly useful hurdler has enough class to be considered along with course and distance winner Pillaging Pict. Trouble Ahead and Bit O Magic have place claims, but old Nosam has to have the race run to suit him. All in all, this looks a suitable opportunity for Deep Water to complete a hat-trick.
