        Verdict

        Nigel Hawke's Soeur Fontenail has claims if fit enough following a lengthy lay off but is probably best watched on his return and a safer option looks to be Ede'iff who is preferred to Acertack. The last mentioned made a winning return here last month but has paid the penalty at the hands of the handicapper as a result and Richard Rowe's gelding is passed over in favour of Ede'iff. The selection has shown improved form with each start this term for Bill Turner, latterly when a six-length second to Bill Owen at Wincanton and off the same mark he is taken to go one better. Top weight Chem's Truce disappointed when pulled up a Towcester last time and the Venetia Williams-trained gelding is probably best watched today, while Robert Alner's Gus des Bois may just need another start to put him spot on. John Upson's Reach The Clouds is capable of playing a part in the finish, if fit enough on his reappearance, but preference is for Ede'iff, who is taken to make the most of his race fitness.
