Verdict

Majed gets six pounds off Redde, and that should be enough for Paul Nicholls' charge to collect, with only El Hombre Del Rio of the rest, worthy of consideration. Majed was an out and out stayer for Martin Pipe, twice appearing in the Martell Grand National, but after proving harder and harder to win with, has now moved to Paul Nicholls. The change of scenery may sweeten him up, and it must be remembered that he is still only a seven-year-old. There was not too much to be gleaned from his seasonal debut at Worcester when a distant second to Rodalko. The form probably is not that bad, as Oliver Sherwood's charge would surely have followed up at Kempton on Wednesday but for falling. So, in what is not a strong race, he is selected ahead of Redde. The latter has an absence to overcome and only beat a poor bunch in heavy ground at Uttoxeter. He needs a downpour to perform and second-best appears to be his fate today. El Hombre Del Rio makes his chasing debut and is perfectly bred for the game, being by Over The River out of a Strong Gale mare. If fit, he can show up well, but on this occasion has it to do against Majed if the move has sweetened him up.
