In depth
Verdict
The 6lb penalty may halt the progress of Sand And Stars and she is passed over in favour of her Thirsk conqueror Charlotte Vale - a filly in-form that is adaptable regarding her ground preference. Lebenstanz is also of interest as she tries this trip for the first time. However, the handicapper has taken no chances with her and this lightly raced four-year-old will do well to give weight and a beating to some more experienced rivals today. Swynford Pleasure - a course and distance winner off a 2lb lower mark last year - also has to be given a very solid mention as she is well suited to a test of stamina and can make them all pull out the stops if she is in the right frame of mind tonight. The hat-trick seeking Toccata Aria is yet another for the list of alternatives as the 6lb extra she picks up for winning at Folkestone is not an insurmountable barrier in this company. However, she will still need to post a lifetime best and may find one too good on these terms - which we hope will be Charlotte Vale, who races off the same mark as when finishing third in a better race than this at Redcar twelve days ago. That form looks good in the context of this race and, now that she has proved herself capable of carrying the weight, she can continue to pay her way in races of this nature; hopefully starting with a clear run tonight.
