Verdict

Although it remains to be seen how strong the Kempton race that Gift Voucher finished third in will prove to be, it was a sufficiently improved effort to give Sir Michael Stoute's charge the nod over Mandatum and Fortune's Princess, who are both respected but have yet to races beyond 10 furlongs. Shastye, on the other hand, was very one-paced last time and may need more time. A line through Motive grants Stoute a good handle on at least that rival and it will be disappointing if Gift Voucher cannot handle the challenge tonight. A half-brother to 2,000 Guineas winner Golan, the selection will obviously never reach the level of competition taken on by his sibling. But he has already created the impression that a minor contest like this is his for the taking and he has a good chance to prove it tonight.
