Verdict
Paradise Isle has been costly to follow, but has bags of ability and must surely take her chance this time, with Local Poet the only serious danger. Chris Wall's filly did all bar open her account at York 11 days ago when coming off second best in a tremendous tussle with the heavily backed Philarmonic. Prior to that she was sent off a warm order at Newcastle after a promising debut at Newmarket, but had the misfortune to be beaten by a 100-1 shot, Coxmoore, who has since proved that to be no fluke, and if there is any justice, the daughter of Bahamian Bounty should go one better. One or two pundits were of the opinion that she needs a stronger jockey, but Georgie Baker is once again entrusted with the mount, so connections are obviously satisfied with his skill. Let's hope that they are vindicated, and unless Local Poet improves a few pounds, they should be. Bryan McMahon's colt chased home the useful Fyodor over the course and distance last month, and will win a maiden soon, but the concession of five pounds is expected to prove too much. Ace Club has the assistance of Kevin Darley for his debut, but does not look anything special, and Paradise Isle is the one they all have to beat.
