In depth
Verdict
A handful of interesting types for future reference can be led home by Maalaq , whose yard have been profitable to follow with their small number of two-year-old runners this season; while Precocious Star has to be respected as a threat after making a pleasing debut at Leicester in April. Middleham-based trainer Mark Johnston is going through a revival in his fortunes of late and his representative, Weekend Fling, is also worth noting in the betting. The last named has an American pedigree and, being out of a multiple sprint winner, can be expected to make an impact in due course. Johnston's string have been slow to come to hand this season, though, so there has to be a suspicion this daughter of Forest Wildcat may be sharper for a run. Precocious Star was unlucky to come up against the likes of Coventry Stakes winner Hellvelyn on her debut, so a six-length defeat reads very respectably in the context of this race. Karl Burke has a good line of form on Silca Soprano and a market move for his representative will be very interesting to note. However, it's hard to get away from Malaaq, whose own introduction produced the highly regarded Danebury Hill. That was a pleasing introduction from the Hamdam Al Maktoum-owned filly and she is fancied to be a different proposition with that run behind her to draw experience from.
