In depth

Verdict

The drop back to a mile looks the right move for Gold Sovereign and he gets the nod to carry top-weight to victory at the main expense of Ansells Pride. A winner at Lingfield on his debut under Ted Durcan, this hard-pulling gelding then failed to get home at Newmarket. A mile on a flat track such as this looks ideal and with the stable having a trickle of winners, he can add to that stream. Ansells Pride bounced back to form when able to hold a prominent position; being near the front looks key to him and if he gets an easy lead then he could be a tough nut to crack. The Osteopath looks high enough in the weights now, whilst Zero Tolerance shaped with much more promise last time out. Stoic Leader was a good winner at Carlisle but a rise in the weights demands more. Marning Star and Reel Buddy get plenty of weight as three-year-old's and both warrant respect, although their recent contests have been below this standard. There could be a class act here, and it is Gold Sovereign is fancied to prove his quality.
