        Verdict

        Spear gets the vote in this maiden with Haatmey and Chinese Puzzle the pair likely to give our selection the most to do. Spear hails from the David Loder yard and this colt made a pleasing racecourse debut at Newmarket's July meeting when finishing third behind Fongtastic. He failed to handle the soft ground last time but he will relish these faster conditions here and with the step up in trip also sure to suit he looks the one to be with. Haatmey ran promisingly behind our selection at Ayr last time and he is another that will be suited by the step up in trip. He is from a stable in decent form and he will not be far away. Chinese Puzzle has had a few chances but he has shown a fair level of form and it would be no surprise to see him pick up some place money. Timber Scorpion is the newcomer from the Mark Johnston yard so he is worth noting in the market for any signs of confidence on his racecourse bow, but for the winner we return to Spear who is given the confident vote.
