In depth
Verdict
Clear Veneer, Ten Downing Street and Stratham are the three for careful consideration here and Stratham is the one they have to beat. Mark Johnston must be respected in a contest of this nature and he saddles Clear Veneer who will have learnt a lot from her debut at Leicester where she showed up well for a long way before fading. She was an unconsidered 33-1 chance that day and takes a drop in grade here. Ten Downing Street will be thereabouts but he was having his third run when going down by three lengths at Redcar last time and he may have to settle for second best again here. Stratham may be too quick for his rivals-he showed good pace at Wolverhampton and led until close home over six furlongs finishing third and had earlier run really well in defeat at Carlisle. That Wolverhampton form is stronger than it may appear-the second ran respectably at Royal Ascot this week, and Stratham gets the vote.
