      Verdict

Patchouli does best with a bit of give in the ground so the recent rain would have aided his cause and he didn't get the run of the race last time. Soloist hasn't shown enough to warrant support under a big weight and though Itchingham Lofte made a promising debut he hasn't made the expected progress. NEILETA was battling on over a mile at Wetherby last week and though no certain stayer wouldn't have much more to do to take this while The Rutland Rebel has shown a bit of potential and isn't overburdened for his handicap debut. Simon's Smile looked a likely future winner when second at Redcar but then ran poorly at Musselburgh. Firewater, a winner on ground with some give at Ayr in October, ran poorly at Beverley last time which wasn't his form.
