    Verdict

If is pilot can get him involved a little earlier this time then SALTERGATE looks the one to be on, while Puddle Duck is respected and Johnny Hancocks should go well. The selection finished ahead of Puddle Duck at Redcar last week when, having looked a picture in the paddock, he was unlucky to be hampered at halfway. With little time to recover from that, Andrew Elliott was unable to get close enough to deliver a challenge until it was too late. He was doing all his best work at the finish and can gain compensation tonight. Puddle Duck is a nicely bred colt by Pastoral Pursuits and acted well on the fast ground at the seaside track, where he faded at the point that the selection picked up. He will benefit from the experience and is not discounted. Johnny Hancocks showed improvement for his first run when going close at Brighton and he would have to be given major consideration on that basis on this easier track. Stablemate Bussa is related to plenty of winners, though at longer trips than today's, and it may be that he will be better when stepped up, while Dark Dune may be a better proposition on pedigree, especially with the yard going well. Hayley Cropper looks likely to do better with age, and preference is for Saltergate.
