Verdict
Ripon racecourse is not renowned as the introduction point of $1,000,000 purchases; so it does not take a crystal ball to arrive at the assumption that Stalking Shadow has the potential to go on to much better things than this ordinary maiden. La Sarrazine and Offshore Anna are others to bear in mind as alternatives. The last named improved last time out at Beverley and created the impression that a race of this nature could be within his capabilities. However, the expected softer surface may not be ideal, so it may be best to monitor the interest of the betting market before getting involved with John Quinn's charge. La Sarrazine posted a most encouraging effort at Goodwood last time out and is going the right way. This daughter of Medicean is expected to pose the selection the most problems along the way. However, Stalking Shadow is very hard to ignore here. A half-brother to the high-class Ishiguru, the Godolphin-owned colt has a pedigree to die for and, even though today's prize-money will barely cover the expenses for getting to the North Yorkshire course, his visit to Ripon can teach Stalking Shadow plenty about being a racehorse and he is the logical choice in the finale.
