Verdict

Fitness will matter but on the formbook, KINGS GAMBIT is the pick with Serva Jugum and Bagutta Sun on the shortlist. Tom Tate's gelding ran a blinder in the Skybet Stakes at York last July. That level of form is way advanced of any of the others but he does have the two pronged issues of fitness and trip to prove this afternoon. Serva Jugum chased home Twice Over in a conditions stakes at Doncaster. A winner over eight furlongs, he has clearly had one or two training issues along the way. Bagutta Sun will be interesting if owners Owen, Butt and Scholes are present. A smart juvenile in Germany, if training on, she may catch a couple of these cold. Almiqdaad won a big Newbury handicap at the back end of last season. Bencoolen and Exit Smiling would be much better off were this a handicap rather than a conditions event. Kings Gambit is the best horse in the race but there are enough doubts to tread carefully about.
