Verdict

It's sad to see such decent prize money rewarded with so few entries and having held the lion's share of the six-day acceptors, Mark Johnston relies upon Salutation. Sixth in the King George V Handicap at Royal Ascot, he should have no issues in relation to both the trip and the prevailing going. Shrewd was behind on that occasion though Michael Bell's gelding bounced back to form at Chester and has been raised 4lb by the handicapper. William Haggas won this race last year and the exiled Yorkshireman will be hoping for a big run from FERSAH. She may have been outclassed in the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot but she was entitled to take her chance in that Group 2 contest having performed with credit in maidens at Leicester and Ascot. London Citizen hasn't offered much since returning from an abortive spell in the USA while Contradict takes a drop in grade having made little impact in a Group 2 event at Saint-Cloud.
