No filly has won this in 10 years so the stats are stacked against the in-form Bettys Hope and Keep Busy and also Lambeth Walk, who finished lame in the Duchess of Cambridgeshire Stakes at Newmarket when last seen. Great Dame was entered yesterday at Beverley so we’ll concentrate on the colts. PLATINUM STAR (NAP) is easily the top rated having run second in the Group 2 July Stakes on his only previous run over this trip. He never got competitive in the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood next time but wouldn’t be the first who failed to act on that track. Oh Purple Reign has already won three times and is weighted to reverse Chelmsford running last month with Bettys Hope. Sir Boris has impressed twice on soft going at Nottingham but connections would have been hoping for some rain.
Oh Purple Reign (IRE) 10-11fav (9-2) Tracked leaders, ridden over 1f out, led inside final furlong, kept on well, won at Chester 6f stks (2) gs in Aug beating Bill Neigh (9-4) by 2l, 5 ran.
Platinum Star (IRE) 16-1 (9-1) Held up towards rear, headway over 2f out, chased leaders over 1f out, never a threat, 5th of 7, 14 1/4l behind Pinatubo (9-1) at Goodwood 7f Grp 2 stks (1) gd in Jul.
Sir Boris (IRE) 5-6fav (9-9) Made all, ridden over 1f out, driven clear final furlong, stayed on well, won at Nottingham 6f stks (5) sft in Aug beating Order Of St John (9-2) by 4 1/2l, 14 ran.
Bettys Hope 14-1 (8-4) Raced in centre, good headway near side of group over 1f out, strong run inside final furlong and closed on leader, led last strides, won at Newbury 5f stks (2) gs in Jul beating Show Me Show Me (8-10) by hd, 24 ran.
Keep Busy (IRE) 7-4fav (9-2) Held up, switched right and headway 2f out, led over 1f out, ran on well, won at Haydock 6f (4) gf in Jul beating Lexi The One (8-6) by 3/4l, 10 ran.
