In depth

Verdict

Today's feature race can see La Persiana end a frustrating run of seconds, with Something Exciting, Polar Jem and Fashionable the main dangers. La Persiana was a decent handicapper last term, but has been unfortunate for one reason or another since returning to the fray and deserves a change of luck. Second in Group 3 company at York and in Italy, she then bumped into Dash To The Top in a Listed affair at Newcastle, and although the latter has been beaten since, that was in the Irish Oaks to put the selection's chance into context. Connections will be disappointed if this half-sister to Grand Lodge does not put matters right here, and she is taken to repel the challenge of Something Exciting. David Elsworth's filly, runner-up in the Vodafone Oaks at Epsom, has the form to win this, but she looked as though she was feeling the effects of a long season when fifth in the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood recently, and is worth opposing at the likely odds. Polar Jem defied an absence when scoring at Newmarket and she is a really tough sort who will love there ground, so should give you a good run for your money, but Pretty Polly winner Fashionable bombed out badly in the Ribblesdale and is best watched, with preference for the luckless but consistent La Persiana.
