In depth

Verdict

SANGARIUS couldn't cope with Armory in the Group 2 Huxley Stakes at Chester but wasn't suited by a slow gallop on that tight track. A Group 3 winner over this trip on soft at Royal Ascot last year, this will be more to his liking. He's closely matched with Extra Elusive on a line through Ascot runner-up Fox Chairman and the latter ran a fine race in the Group 3 Gordon Richards Stakes here last month. Roger Charlton's charge had Fox Tal over 4 lengths behind when landing the Group 3 Rose Of Lancaster Stakes at Haydock and should confirm the form. Euchen Glen won the St Simon at Newbury in October on very heavy ground so shouldn't be dismissed but Oriental Mystique's only victory came on the all-weather.
