Verdict
Lenny Lungo's L'Oiseau will be a warm order in the bumper that closes the card and, in an interesting event, holds a solid chance ahead of, mainly, County Classic and Fairy Skin Maker. The selection is highly regarded by his trainer and showed more than enough on his Kelso debut to suggest that a race of this nature is his for the taking. Fairy Skin Maker also showed promise on his debut over course and distance, and holds Breezy Warrior and Koloma on the basis of that run. Spring Gamble was just a length behind him in the same race but, if once factoring in their respective riders' allowances, then is weighted to reverse the placing. Many of the others have little in the way of form to recommend them but Koloma might be worth keeping an eye on. French-bred, she attracted bits of money when Richard Johnson rode her on her sole start to date, which took place here. If settling better than she did that day, she could run well. Ferdy Murphy's Paphian debuted in a much better event at Newbury in February and should also be capable of better. The debutants Innocent Bystander - who is flat bred - and Magic Hour have something to like about them on breeding so market moves would be interesting, while Countback, who is French bred, might run better if ridden with more restraint than on his debut. Overall, though, L'Oiseau looks the one to beat.
