        Verdict

        This is not the strongest of maidens and a chance is taken that Middleham Park will have learnt sufficiently enough from his debut run to give him a fitness advantage over Terraquin today. The Pat Haslam-trained colt is rangy sort who will surely get better in time, but the form of his belated first run is working out well and he should be better suited to this drop back to seven furlongs. Terraquin, on the other hand, should also find a race of this nature somewhere along the line, but it would be dangerous to read too much into his effort when he finished down the field behind Almushahar on his debut last August. Any rain will help his cause though. Welcome Signal is one to watch out for in the betting ring and a more forceful ride to the one employed on his reappearance will give him solid place claims.
