Verdict
Loyal Tycoon looked unlucky not to win a similar event over six furlongs here on Tuesday and will be a popular choice to gain compensation. However, the step up in trip to seven furlongs is not certain to suit and he is worth opposing. Conversely the consistent Flying Treaty may not appreciate the drop in distance having shown all of his best form over a mile and, under a penalty, is another worth steering clear of. Topweight Air Mail has been beaten by Ann Stokell's six-year-old in each of his last two starts and is difficult to fancy even on the revised terms. Golden Brief continues in a rich vein of form but has done all of his winning at Lingfield so he is another with seemingly obvious claims that may be best to discount. Nick Littmoden saddles two, Celtic Thatcher the mount of Ian Mongan and Mutared, with preference on jockey bookings being the former. A market move for the William Haggas-trained Hand Chime would be of interest, while Pedro Jack could go well with Brian Meehan's horses running into form right now. The selection though is David Arbuthnot's Middleton Grey. Simon Whitworth's mount proved his effectiveness over this trip when a wide-margin winner of a handicap at Wolverhampton earlier in the month and although beaten by Loyal Tycoon here last time that was over a mile so, back at this trip and off just an 8lb higher mark than at Dunstall Park, he could be the answer to a tricky handicap
