A good race by the track's standards and at the likely odds, LOWTHER makes plenty of appeal against market protagonists, Penitent and Collateral Damage. The selection finished second in the Silver Cup at Ayr but has stayed a mile in the past and if one were to ignore his recent run at Chester; he would be much shorter in the market than his odds today will suggest. Penitent had Musleh behind when he dead-heated for first place at Kempton. Lightly raced, he is one very much to note in the market. Collateral Damage looks a much improved performer and while the handicapper has taken some action, with his preferred going on the turf being that where there is give underfoot, there is a plausible argument to suggest that he could take to the fibresand surface. Nightjar has popped up at big odds here in the past and cannot be dismissed. Faithful Ruler has been a model of consistency in handicaps this term whilst Tactful has a horror draw to work from though has taken on listed class opposition during the majority of the summer. Sovereign Remedy is best of the rest. Lowther is chanced on the basis that his unfashionable connections will allow him to trade at bigger odds than he should.
