In depth

Verdict

California Laws can make the most of the weight that he receives from his rivals, with Prince Tum Tum, Jimmy The Guesser and Marko Jadeo seen as likely dangers. David Barron's runners here should always be noted, and indeed California Laws has already paid to follow, having gained three of his four career victories on the Fibresand. His latest success was a neck verdict over Jimmy The Guesser, and strictly on the form-book the latter is entitled to turn the tables on 3lb better terms, but Nick Littmoden's charge has since been beaten here over six furlongs and the feeling is that he is still just a bit too high in the weights. A bigger danger therefore may well turn out to be Prince Tum Tum who ran really well when second at Wolverhampton last time. The one negative with him though is his ability to act on this surface, having never raced on it before. Marko Jadeo has a 6lb penalty to overcome but looks best of the Ron Harris pair. For the winner we return to California Laws.
