      Verdict

Shifty gets the nod over Scurra, Maggie¿s Pet and The Gay Fox in a moderate affair. Division two of this amateur riders¿ handicap is uninspiring, with nothing really catching the eye, but Shifty may be the one. The four-year-old gained his first victory for Dandy Nicholls at Thirsk in July, battling well to beat stablemate Sir Don by a short-head. That was his first victory since his Luca Cumani days, and although yet to really pay his way, his sixth to Pagan Prince at Ascot in September stands out as a commendable effort. Scurra was flattered by his proximity to Dancing Phantom at Redcar but that was his best effort yet, and Maggie¿s Pet ran above himself when actually finishing a neck in front of the selection here five days ago. The Gay Fox has bits and pieces of form as well, but in a hard one to call, we return to Shifty as the answer.
