In depth

Verdict

Legal Set held on well under Philip Makin at Catterick last week and, with the apprentice keeping the ride, Ann Stokell's gelding is fancied to follow up off a 5lb lower mark with Amanda's Lad and Shifty Night. The last mentioned is now 7lbs higher than when scoring here in February and may now be in the grip of the handicapper after a successful spell during the winter. Top weight Merdiff has struggled off a similar mark of late and is another that could do with dropping a few pounds and of more interest may be Wainwright, who should appreciate the return to six furlongs having failed to stay seven last time. Amanda's Lad took a long time to open his account but has finally done so and has to be of interest off his lightweight but the vote goes to Legal Set. The gelding has struggled under Ann Stokell with his regular pilot unable to claim any allowance but duly obliged at Catterick when apprentice ridden last time. Back on the all-weather on a favourable mark and with Philip Making again on board Legal Set looks a decent bet to follow up.
