Verdict

The Paul Nicholls-trained Luneray was well held off a 1lb lower mark than today's at Worcester last month and looks worth taking on with preference for Escompteur, who gets the vote ahead of Blakeney Coast. The last mentioned has won his two starts this term but Colin Tizzard's gelding has more to do than when winning those races at Plumpton and Hereford off his new mark. The Philip Hobbs-trained Tamango looks a shade high in the weights at present, while Fear Siuil has dropped to a decent mark but needs to improve on recent form to trouble the judge. Jonjo O'Neill's Renvyle is entitled to step up on the form of his reappearance effort at Worcester in May and cannot be discounted completely although more obvious claims are probably held by the consistent Silvergino, who is entitled to be thereabouts again. Dun An Doras is another worthy of a mention but the vote goes to Escompteur. Martin Pipe's gelding has always looked likely to make a better chaser than he was a hurdler and, while the French import has yet to fulfill that belief, the step up to this trip may well bring about the necessary improvement in this unexposed five-year-old.
