A big field is set to contest the opener, with Messiah Garvey the selection, ahead of Zennerman and Samuel Charles. This may not take a great deal of winning. The pick is the only runner on the card for local trainer Dandy Nicholls, and Adrian Nicholls' only scheduled ride. He won over 7 furlongs at Beverley last month, but looked then as if the step up wouldn't be a problem. He disappointed last time out, but a return to the Beverley form could see him land the spoils. Samuel Charles may be good enough to make up for a poor draw; he's having his first run in the north for 3 years, but Connor Dore, who won this race last year, must think it's worth the while. He's the second oldest runner here, and has top weight to carry. He's one of a number of winners over this trip and should come into calculations. He may try and set the pace. Zennerman hasn't won for over a year, but none of these are exactly on fire at the moment. Of the shortlisted trio, he's got the best draw. It's a pretty open contest though as these often are, with most of the form being on the moderate side of average. But we'll side with Messiah Garvey.
