In depth

Verdict

Nils Anderson put up an improved performance when racing on fast ground for the first time when comfortably landing a handicap at Newton Abbot last week and the Alner's gelding is taken to defy the 7lb penalty for that success, getting the vote over Coach Lane and Go Solo. The last mentioned is better than he showed on his reappearance at Huntingdon earlier this month and David Pipe's gelding would have claims if all the better for that run. Foreign King ran better here last time but would need to improve again to trouble the judge, while Master John is less exposed than most of these but looks a shade high in the weights at present. Venetia Williams has her string in fine form at present and her runner Coach Lane comes into this in good heart having won narrowly at Perth last month; however, that was on a softer surface and he may not be as effective under the faster ground today. Nils Anderson will have no problems with the ground though and he looks the pick of the field.
