In depth

Verdict

A tricky race to fathom., but Monsieur Georges seems to be going the right way and is just preferred to Star Time, with Starlight Express and Crookstown Castle others of note. Starlight Express was showing her first real form when landing a novices handicap at Wincanton last time out, and there could be more to come, but there is certainly a doubt as to whether she will be as effective on this much stiffer track. Crookstown Castle won nicely at Sandown last month but was then disappointingly one-paced when favourite at Wincanton. Star time has a handy weight here and looks a consistent type. He could well try to dominate this field and could prove hard to peg back. But we just side with Monsieur Georges, who failed to stay three miles here in October, but fared much better over two miles when second here a fortnight ago, and would have finished much closer but for making a mistake at the final flight. On the face of it, this trip could be ideal for Monsieur Georges and with JP McNamara keeping the ride he is fancied to go one better.
