Verdict

General Alarm, Ask The Umpire and Barren Lands are the three against the field here, with General Alarm taken to score. Ask The Umpire was a surprise winner of a similar race last time, getting up in the shadow of the post. The surface will be quicker here and he may just be run off his feet, though the extra furlong will help. The veteran Barren Lands showed he was no back number last time when third at Towcester, only run out of it in the closing stages in a similar race to this. Twice a fast ground winner over hurdles and a winner in this grade last time, General Alarm has ticks in all the right boxes and can dismiss his rivals here.
