Verdict

A chance is taken with Vilnius, while Watch Chain, Saucy Girl and Jigajig head the shortlist of alternatives. The last named has been given a live chance by the handicapper - especially following an encouraging second at Musselburgh last week. Kevin Ryan is keeping the gelding busy and it would come as no surprise to see him post an improved effort today. He does already have a bit to find with Watch Chain, though. Saucy Girl made moderate strides as a juvenile but posted a better effort on his reappearance at Yarmouth just six days ago. He is also being kept on the boil and has to merit a second look in this company. Watch Chain is capable of making the rest aware of his presence and, despite not being the most consistent; at least has conditions to suit. However, with punting being the name of the game, a small stakes investment on Vilnius is recommended. The Mick Channon-trained filly is a typically battle-hardened representative of the yard. And her willingness to get involved in a scrap could make all the difference as Vilinus bids to gain what would be a well deserved success.
