Verdict

WILFRED PICKLES appeals as a punters choice in a tricky little contest. Sayyaaf and Baariq are also shortlisted as leading contenders, while support for Sir Michael Stoute's well-bred King's Chorister would also be noteworthy. The last named makes his turf debut today and may well prove to be a lot better than he showed when he was introduced on the All Weather track at Lingfield a fortnight ago. The fact he is already gelded will hardy dent the fortunes of his owners, the Cheveley Park Stud. So he may be a fun horse to follow when he goes handicapping. Baariq showed a good level of improvement last time out and may have plenty more in the offering. The booking of Jimmy Fortune is always a good sign. But it is worth bearing in mind the Irishman is 0-from-10 for the yard this season. Sayyaaf was beaten by a very expensive purchase (Mafaz, a Derby entry from the John Gosden yard)) last time out and it will be interesting to see if the betting public is willing to forgive him today. The prudent amongst you may consider a saver with this well-bred colt. However, Wilfred Pickles proved he has got the hang of things with a solid run at Newbury 10 days ago and this strapping fellow represents great each-way value at the likely odds.
